Perfect weather and free entertainment and refreshments drew a big crowd to Litchfield Bancorp's 14th annual Community Day celebration on June 6.The bank sponsors the event as a way to acknowledge the community for its support. More than 500 people turned out for what has become a much-anticipated late-spring local tradition.
"We were happy to be able to have it at a time when the economy isn't too good," Litchfield Bancorp Vice President Paul McLaughlin said. "If there was ever a year to hold Community Day, this was it. We heard a lot of positive comments from people who appreciated the chance to have a free, fun-filled afternoon with their kids."
Children played in inflatable fun houses set up on the lawn in front of the bank, had their faces painted by bank employees and gorged on hot dogs, soda, snacks and snow cones served by staffers.

Returning for another year of entertaining the crowd were the Forbes Flyers from Torrington, an award-winning team of jump-ropers that has competed nationally. Snapping their jump ropes to the sound of music, the Flyers displayed their talent in a pair of exhibitions. Also back was singer-songwriter Nancy Tucker of Goshen, who put smiles on faces with her blend of comedy, guitar play and songs about the human experience. From the Sharon Audubon Society came naturalist Kim Miedema, education intern Alax Navarro and a small flock of birds of prey. The birds serve as ambassadors at school and community events and help educate the public on the importance of protecting birds and their natural habitats.
